The Southern Nevada Academy of Dental Assisting developed out of a desire Dr. Blair R. Hale and Dr. Jason L. Downey had to have well trained dental assistants. We realized that there were not many options for dental assistants. They could be trained on the job, which was frustrating for doctor, patient, and assistants, or they could take a two year course at the community college for close to twenty thousand dollars. Neither option was appealing, so we found a similar program which had been in operation in another state for over ten years, and modeled our program after it.
This model has been hugely succesful for all parties. The dentists love it, because the assistants have been trained, and the assistants love it because they are trained in an environment where they are not worried about the patient or the doctor. They are able to focus on what they need to learn without that additional stress.
